Don't Ignore Your Heel Pain

When you’re suffering from heel pain, it’s important to seek professional help to relieve your pain and discomfort. Our Board Certified heel painPodiatrist Dr. Corinne Kauderer of Dyker Heights Advanced Foot & Dental Wellness in Brooklyn, New York is well versed in the causes of heel pain and has a variety of treatments that have proven effective in helping her patients.

More about Heel Pain

Plantar Fasciitis is a term that is used in order to refer to either heel or arch pain because of inflammation in the bottom of a patient’s foot. The plantar fasciitis itself is inflammation found in the connective tissue (plantar fascia) that runs from the base of the toes across the arch to the heel. Generally, overexertion is the cause of this discomfort. Ill-fitting shoes may lead to this pain as well.

Heel pain is oftentimes caused because the foot rolls inwards when walking. This causes a flattening of the foot, which lengthens the arch and adds strain to the plantar fascia of the foot. This leads to inflammation. Thankfully our Dyker Heights podiatrist Dr. Kauderer has successfully treated many patients with the same ailment.

Most of the time this heel pain is treated with rest, over-the-counter pain relievers, and stretching exercises such as rolling your foot on a tennis ball. For moderate to severe cases, physical therapy or custom orthotics may be recommended by your podiatrist. In persistent instances, Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT) is used to treat heel pain. It sends acoustic vibrations into the muscles of the foot releasing inflammation over time, leading to less pain.
